Political Prisoner of Our America: Gabriela Gallardo
We denounce that the Ecuadorian State is not guaranteeing the right to food or health of political prisoner Gabriela Gallardo, nor the rights recognized in the regulations protecting Persons Deprived of Liberty (PPL in spanish). The food provided by the SNAI is insufficient for all persons deprived of liberty and is worse in Gabriela’s case due to the catastrophic illness she suffers from. For this reason, the family guarantees food to supplement her diet and protect her well-being.
However, although the authorities publish a list of permitted products, in practice the prison service arbitrarily prevents entry, using arguments that are not included in any official statement.
Furthermore, her family members report having been subjected to harassment, mistreatment, and humiliating and degrading treatment by police and military personnel. Institutional violence violates the dignity and exacerbates the vulnerable situation experienced by the family members of a political prisoner of the Ecuadorian State.
Since Gabriela Gallardo’s house arrest was revoked in October 2024, she has not received the essential clinical examinations necessary to properly administer the medication she needs to treat her brain tumor. This omission seriously endangers her life and demonstrates the negligence with which her medical condition is being handled, causing serious damage to Gabriela’s health, to the point of being irreversible and irreparable.
We demand that the human rights of Gabriela Gallardo and all persons deprived of their liberty be respected. The state must comply with the guarantees established by law and regulations, without exceptions or arbitrary actions.

Denunciamos que el Estado ecuatoriano no está garantizando el derecho a la alimentación ni a la salud de la presa política, Gabriela Gallardo, ni los derechos reconocidos en la normativa que protege a las personas privadas de la libertad (PPL).
La alimentación entregada por el SNAI es insuficiente para todas las personas privadas de libertad y se agrava en el caso de Gabriela, debido a la enfermedad catastrófica que padece. Por esta razón la familia garantiza los alimentos para complementar su dieta y proteger su bienestar.
No obstante, aunque las autoridades publican un listado de productos permitidos, en la práctica el servicio penitenciario impide el ingreso de manera arbitraria, utilizando argumentos que no constan en ningún comunicado oficial.
Por otro lado los familiares denuncian haber sido objeto de hostigamientos, maltratos y tratos humillantes y degradantes por parte del personal policial y militar. La violencia institucional atenta contra la dignidad y agrava la situación de vulnerabilidad que viven los familiares de una presa política del Estado ecuatoriano.
Desde la revocatoria de la prisión domiciliaria de Gabriela Gallardo en octubre del 2024, no se le han realizado los exámenes clínicos esenciales para la dosificación adecuada del medicamento que necesita para el tratamiento de su tumor cerebral. Esta omisión pone grave riesgo su vida y evidencia la negligencia con la que se está manejando su situación médica, provocando en Gabriela serios daños en su salud, al punto de ser irreversibles e irreparables.
Exigimos que se respeten los derechos humanos de Gabriela Gallardo y de todas las personas privadas de la libertad el estado debe cumplir con las garantías establecidas en la ley y el reglamento, sin excepciones ni arbitrariedades.
